Safe Home Operator (Urgent)

Safe Home is a private residence that provides temporary shelter to a woman over 50 years of age who is fleeing an abusive situation. We are seeking Safe Homes in the South Okanagan area to provide this emergency shelter.

The locations of these homes are confidential. The Safe Home is intended to provide shelter for up to 30 days at a time. Every effort is made to accommodate compatibility between the Safe Home operator and the woman seeking shelter. Safe Home Operators do not provide counselling as this is done by SOWINS staff.

Safe Home operators do provide practical help and emotional support by showing warmth, caring and acceptance in a non-judgmental manner. Safe Home Operators are supported by the SOWINS Safe Home Coordinator and they are part of the Women’s Support Team.

If you are interested in interviewing to become a safe home operator or learning more about what is involved in running a safe home, please contact Debbie at
