SOWINS is looking for a Regular Part-time Mobile Outreach Worker who will offer early intervention, support and harm reduction to individuals involved in street-based sex work and to persons engaging in survival sex through empathic first response street level engagement outreach services.
The Mobile Outreach Worker will work directly with people who experience barriers to overall health and well-being such as: chronic homelessness, intergenerational trauma, problematic substance use, systemic abuse, lack of safety, loneliness and stigma.
The Mobile Outreach Worker is responsible to maintain supplies inventory for the van, order harm reduction items, make up harm reduction kits and source donations for these whenever possible. Responsibility for the regular maintenance of the vehicle. There is one part-time position available which will average 20 hours per week.

TRANSITION HOUSE WORKER
5 Positions: DAY / NIGHT – 12 hour shifts

SOWINS operates a Residential Shelter for women and their children at risk of violence and abuse. It is anticipated that the 19 suite Shelter may house up to 35 individuals at a time, including women, youth and children; however, these numbers will fluctuate on a daily basis. Anyone providing services must illustrate compassion and a nonjudgmental attitude towards women, youth and children who have experienced abuse or are at risk of abuse.
SOWINS is looking for five Transition House Workers. Shifts are 12 hours. Day shifts are from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm and Night shifts are from 7:00 pm – 7:00 am. Night shifts are awake shifts.
The full-time positions average 36 hours per week (4 positions):
Position A: Sun D – Mon D – Tues N
Position B: Tues D – Wed D – Thurs N
Position C: Thurs D – Fri N – Sat N
Position D: Fri D – Sat D – Sun N
The part-time position averages 24 hours per week (1 position):
Position E: Mon N – Wed N
Wage rate is per Grid Level 10 Collective Agreement ($17.47 – $20.34).
Extended benefits are available after 3 month trial period as per Article 24.11 (b).
Working from a trauma-informed and harm reduction model, Transition House Workers monitor and ensure the safety and comfort of residents and the security of the facility.
Support services provided include crisis intervention and risk assessment for residents and crisis line callers; emotional support, encouragement, goal setting and problem solving support to residents at all times of the day or night.
Housekeeping duties such as laundry, kitchen prep, and cleaning are required.
Diploma in a related human / social service field
One year recent experience in the area of violence against women
Knowledge and understanding of the connection between violence, mental health and substance use.
Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License with good driving record.
Acceptable criminal record check
Valid First Aid certificate
Must be able to do general household chores; and be able to deal with ongoing crisis situations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Second Language and / or good working knowledge of cultural diversity an asset
