SOWINS creates new Counselling and Victim Services team

Lindsay, Samantha and Katherine are joining forces to make an impact for women, youth, children and men, yes, men in our community!
The new Victim Services and Stopping the Violence Counselling Programs include two clinical counsellors specializing in trauma to support victims of abuse,  domestic violence situations past violation or victimizations and sexual assaults.
The case load is large and the commitment to clients can be long, depending on the specific case. Together these teams provide a wide range of services including:
• counselling
• safety planning
• referrals to other community agencies,
• collaboration with RCMP, Crown Counsel, Parole and Probation Officers
• support for victims going through the process of a criminal trial
The Victim Services team supports not only the victim but the entire family through this process from the beginning to end.
“We will be with the client at court and follow up if the offender is charged and convicted. We will alert the victim of breaches or if the offender is released. The safety of the client is paramount,” mentions Katherine, Community Based Victim Services worker.
SOWINS is continuing to grow to serve our community as the needs change and grow so will we!
