Share the Spirit of the holidays with SOWINS!

2020 has been an exceptionally busy year for SOWINS. While COVID has brought many families closer together, for others – women and children have found themselves trapped in homes where violence and abuse has escalated.  The holiday season has always been a difficult time for many of our clients and this year we know those numbers are on the rise.

Many single women and families are choosing to leave abusive situations and strive to rebuild their lives. Please help them in their journey by participating in SOWINS SHARE THE SPIRIT CAMPAIGN. There are many ways to give:

Here’s how you can help today:

Donate Today

Your generous gift will help support single women, youth and local families during this difficult time. Volunteers will use donations to build hampers and backpacks, and buy gifts for those in need. Funds are also utilized by SOWINS programs most in need.

Tax receipts available for donations over $25.00!

Take me straight to the online donation form on this page!

Hamper Sponsor

Become a Hamper Sponsor  and provide a single woman or family with a ‘Hamper’ of ‘food’ and gifts for the holiday season. Hampers provide grocery gift cards, gifts and, if possible other needs identified by clients.

Hampers sponsors may expect to spend $250 for a single woman and more for a family. While we encourage sponsors to shop/assemble hampers, funds may also be donated, and volunteers will do the shopping.

Can’t sponsor an entire hamper?

If you would like to help with a hamper, but cannot sponsor an entire hamper, join with friends, or colleagues to create one, or just let us know! There are others who would also like to share in the creation of a family hamper.  Anything you can do is appreciated!

Bring a New Unwrapped Gift

Provide a new unwrapped gift or a gift certificate for local stores or services. These items will help create hampers and provide gifts for the women and children we serve.

Donations may be dropped off at SOWINS Administration #102-1027 Westminster Ave West, Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5pm

Help build a Backpack this Holiday Season

For many, housing is difficult to find and unaffordable which leaves many men, women, youth and children jumping from shelter to shelter, or worse, living on the streets.

As winter approaches, sleeping on the streets becomes extremely challenging.

You can help. Share your Spirit with those in need in our community by building a backpack.

The SOWINS ‘Build a Backpack’ Project makes it easy to reach out to people in need. All you need to do is purchase items necessary for those that are street entrenched and top it with a little holiday kindness. We have the backpacks; volunteers will fill them with new, donated items.

Items we include in each backpack are:

  • A tarp
  • Flashlight
  • Wool socks
  • Underwear
  • Gloves
  • Long Underwear
  • Hand and foot warmers
  • Water bottle
  • Boost nutritional supplement
  • Snacks such as nut free granola bars
  • Wet wipes or sanitizer
  • Lip Balm
  • Blanket
  • Toque
  • Hygiene products, including razors, tampons/pads, soap, toothbrush/paste, deodorant, shampoo, nail clippers, hand lotion, etc.

Then we try top it off with a small, wrapped gift and some holiday treats such as chocolates. A great gift option is a food outlet gift card so the recipient can get a hot cup of coffee and a sandwich!

Backpacks are created for women, youth, and men. If you are providing clothing please indicate the size of the clothing inside – for example, Female – Medium.

Thank-you for Sharing your Spirit with SOWINS this holiday season!

Together, we are making a difference in the lives of men, women, youth, and children in the South Okanagan.
